How would you feel if someone gave to charity in your name instead of getting you a Christmas

I think it is a great gift, especially if it might get a person who usually looks out only for them self to look beyond that perspective
honestly....id be upset if someone did that to me. ... ... 1. im just greedy and self centered. ... 2. i dont appreciate it when people make decisions for me, without my consent. ... ... if i give to charity, i want to willingly do it, in my own name. ... ... besides, it take away the real meaning. if you did it for her, she will not get the meaning, and will only hold it over your head and she will just never let it go. ... ... and also, the choice of charity makes a dif. i know in the end it would go to a good cause no matter who...but remember, she will already be sour about where the money went.....give it to a charity, you know would warm her heart (for me, it would warm my hear it went to help children or the poor).
I feel a little better when I know a good deed is done. ... ... so, you giving to charity is a gift just knowing that it has been done, b/c it makes me feel a little brighter about this world, and the suffering in it. ... ... I would rather that as a gift. I don't absolutely need anything, and I'd rather feed someone that is starving than buy another unnecessity. I wish that that were the way the whole world worked too. Not that I do not appreciate gifts, I really really do. But, I think that I'd appreciate that more than anything. I feel bad about all the money spent on silly things this time of year while people are starving around the globe, if everyone put half the energy and money they spent on christmas into helping others that need it terribly, imagine the amount of suffering that would be lessened or ended.
I know everybody on here is going to give you the same...I think it is a great idea and I would love it response but I'm going to be real. I don't think too many people would want that. Why not just give to charity for yourself and still get the person their present? I don't think I would really want to hear that somebody gave to charity in my name instead of giving me a gift. How is that going to benefit me? You gave it! I think you already know your cousin and if she is the type who won't care about how generous you were for Christmas then I would say get her something and give to charity for yourself, not for her. If she is self centered....you giving to charity in her name isn't going to change that.
good lord blixa i dont have the money for cousins here but if i had a cousin who wanted to give to a charity in my name i would love to pick what charity like maybe st judes hospital for children lol i swear im not spamming lol but on the serious side that would be the charity i would give to its a free hospital for sick children and they survive from donations only so no i would not be mad lol .................god bless ya

I think it's a great idea, God has bless me with so much and I would like to bless someone in return. ... ... Maybe you should take your cousin to a mission where people are are starving and has no place to call home, then she will realize that the world doesn't revolve around her and her materialist ways

I would think it a nice gesture, especially as I'm not in need of anything. There are things I want, but they are not needed and I could buy them for myself if I really want them bad enough. so I think it would be nice of you to do that.
I would like that as a gift as long a it was a charity I believed in and not one that I don't. Your cousin needs to learn that she's not the only person in the world. It's your gift to give; give it to whomever you please.
